1. Vertical axis:-
This is a axis about which the instrument cam be rotated in a horizontal plane.
2. Horizontal axis:-
It is a axis about which the telescope can be rotated in vertical plane.
3. Line of sight:-
Line padding through the intersection of cross-hairs and the optical center of objective and its continuation.
4. Axis of level tube:-
Axis tangentially to the longitudinal curve of the bubble tube at its center.
5. Centering:-
The process of setting the theodolite just over the station is known as centering.
6. Transiting:-
Transiting is the process of turning telescope 180 degree in vertical plane about trunnion axis.
- It is also known as plunging or reversing because in this process line of sight reversed.
7. Swinging:-
Swinging is the prices of turning the telescope in horizontal plane.
- When telescope turn in clockwise direction it is known as right swing.
- While telescope turn in anti-clockwise direction it is known as left swing.
8. Face left observation:-
If the face of vertical circle is left of the observer, that observation is known as face left observation.
9. Face right observation:-
When the face of vertical circle is in right side of the observer, then that observation is known as face right observation.
10. Changing face:-
It is a process of turning the telescope right to left or vice- versa.
11. Telescope Normal:-
Telescope is said to be normal or direct, when the face of vertical circle is left and bubble is up.
12. Telescope Inverted:-
Telescope is said to be inverted or reversed when, the face of vertical circle is right and the bubble is down.
